Bam! Purple! We are now carrying the new Brooks Colt in Black, Mustard, and Violet. These have a beefier body compared to any Brooks saddle. They are unique to say the least. More on Classy/City/Touring bike related items soon...

Brake Pads

The rain last night was nuts! You could barely see the road. I saw a couple of people riding around, looked actually like a lot of fun. Speaking of riding around in crazy weather, an essential part to stopping, on top of having your brakes adjusted properly, is having great brake pads.

Kool Stop has been making quality pads/shoes for years and after all this time still made in the USA! Go America. Here are some new styles that we've gotten in. You can check some here or our full line here.

Kool Stop BMX Salmon Pads

Kool Stop DA/Ultegra Salmon Brake Pads

We also carry Swiss Stop pads. Even though they are geared more towards training and racing, they will work wonders for any bike that you have. They make compounds that work with alloy, carbon, and ceramic rims. Swoop them here.
Swiss Stop Pads for Campy Brakes/Carbon Rims
------
Swiss Stop Pads for Shimano Brakes/Alloy Rims

Pick any of these up and stop with confidence!

MKE Polo Fork!

The Milwaukee POLO FORK was a collaboration with New York's own Doug D and the Milwaukee Bicycle Co.

Here's what Doug had to say about his initial idea...
"I was thinking about the convenience of having one spare wheel to replace the front or rear, especially in tournament situations. A 120mm spaced fork made specifically for polo would mean more interchangeability, less spare parts, more gearing options for us single speed and fixed riders. And it would mean that any bike with this fork would breathe polo."

  • Bruiser Polo Fork - Aftermarket
  • 400mm Axle to Crown
  • 4130 Heat Treated Chromoly
  • Weight - 1260g w/300mm Steerer
  • 1-1/8" One-Piece Fully CNC'd Steerer
  • 990 Brake Mounts with Removable Studs (plugs included when not using studs)

  • 55-73mm X-Long Reach Caliper Compatible

Coverage

I like the heckling in this one. There's a great shot of Matt Hewitt scoring a goal so look for that.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to stay at the tournament for too long since it was a grueling hot day but I had a blast! Needless to say that many people left with some spectacular tan lines. The event was ridiculously well put together. On top of all 68+/- teams playing and hanging out, there were many spectators ranging from families with kids to other cycling enthusiasts. It was good to see the city of Madison support such a great event. Thanks to the Hunters and all those who helped put this all together, apparently the whole weekend was flawless.

I ended up staying for a couple of hours and watched a few of games. I have to say I got sucked into it. The plays were faster and the crashers were harder. I've never seen polo played like this. Hundreds came out to play polo! All I know is that everyone had a great weekend, what a truly revolutionary event.

Also check this out, ESPN covered the event too!

Yeah I had hot coffee outside on a 90 deg and humid day and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Game on

You know my Steedz (if you don't get it, don't worry about it)

Polo Steeds

Wow, a slew of polo players came into Ben's yesterday and I'd have to say they brought some of the best put together bikes that I've seen in a very long time. I remember when players would ride the crappiest of crap parts since 'it was going to get ruined anyways.' Now that bike polo has a more serious contingency, riders are opting for the higher quality and beefier pieces and frames. I'm surprised I didn't get any drool on their bikes.

Custom Joust with couplers! Oh man, that's my kind of flavor. This thing also had Thomson and Chris king bits. There were a lot of Brooks saddles too!

Geekhouse polo bike and more couplers! With 26" wheels becoming more popular, so are mtn bike parts. Chris King hubs! Bzzzzz zzz zzzz zz.

Custom Bilenky frame. I met some awesome people from the Bilenky clan at NAHBS. They put a lot of heart into everything they make and I'm sure this frame is no exception.

Disc brakes and even more couplers!

Surly 1x1 - Polo! to infinity and beyond

Carl posted this article in our comments, it's a quick read. Polo is getting bigger but it's also getting (if it isn't already) really serious. I have found that polo players are completely dedicated to their sport. Traveling all over the world just to play a game or two. There's a lot of soul in this game and it shows not only in their bikes but also on and off the court. The comradery and respect is strong, so bravo to all of you for making it what it is today and for what it will be tomorrow. Hope to catch the action in Madison!

Joe's Bruiser

The North American Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships will be held this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Madison, WI. This apparently will be the largest tournament in Bike Polo history and it's going down so close to home! Over 60 teams will be competing for the top spot. Members of Ben's Cycle and MKE Bike Polo Club will be present so I'm sure they'd be psyched to have you come and hang out. If you plan on coming out here's a map of hotels, local bars, and restaurants. Good luck to all!

Medium Bruiser

Wow, it's still super crazy here at the Ben's camp. That's a good thing, just haven't had much time to post stuff. Anyways, Drew just put together a sweet Bruiser build for sale. Great parts all over; Animal pedals, Burro Straps, Odyssey V3 stem, DK Chain, Profiles to Chukkers, Chris King HS, Profile 30t Sprocket...this thing is hot. Check out that chain! Drop by the shop to check it out!

Good Times

Hangouts on bikes in the summer, sweet! Here's our hometown hero Kevin (Breakaway Couriers and Cog Mag) hanging out with John in NY. If you're not at home watching Back to the Future, hopefully you're enjoying the outdoors. Winter creeps up faster than we all like to think. Bleh, creeps me out just thinking about it. Anyways, it's always great to see that Milwaukee head badge!

Speaking of our head badges, check out Kenny's Orange One!

Also another fellow Breakaway Courier and all around great guy, he owns the biggest frame we carry. This bike is definitely well loved.

Well, it's weekend time again. Hope the weather is great and you have fun whatever you're doing!

Hoverboards Don't Float on Water

(Whoops, I now realized it should be Oct 2015...sorry, I got really excited. Still fun to reminisce, but seriously for you metal fans, check out Sweet Cobra!)

So apparently according to Back to the Future Pt II, two days ago we should be driving in freeways with no roads and Mattel should have pink hoverboards available. Where's my jacket that dries me off if I accidentally fall into a pool of water? If you have no idea what I'm talking about...just make like a tree, and get out of here (I did it again! No, really, just watch the movies).

Why is everything so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull? - Doc Brown

No Doc, it's because Sweet Cobra exists and they will rock Milwaukee's socks off next Thursday!

Aaannnddd on another different tangent...5 hours until I will be enjoying Predators. Be jealous.

Now You Know...

Hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was very relaxing. Tried to be on the bike the whole time since the apartment was ridiculously humid. Anyways, it was a busy weekend for Ben's and I'm still trying to replenish our stock!

I guess now's a time if any to say thank you to all who have supported us and who still continue to shop with us. Your loyalty and support are well appreciated and we'll continue to work hard for all of you. Whether you're a familiar face in our shop or a one time buyer, we here at Ben's want to say thank you. You all are already awesome!

Happy America Weekend

Milwaukee Bike Parking
Photo Via Over the Bars

Well, the weekend approaches and if the clear blue sky is any indication of this weekend's weather, it's going to be a great 4th of July. On top of Summerfest's insanity, cyclists will have their own shenanigans at this year's Tour De Fat at Humboldt park this Saturday. Hopefully I can find a costume that I won't overheat in. We are closed Monday but we will be back in business Tuesday. In any case, have a safe and great weekend!

Incoming

Just checked incoming UPS and guess what is slated to arrive next week? Mash frames! We should be getting a size run of gray and some green ones in. Oh man, this seems like a good weekend to whip out the ol' track bike. It's been awhile since I've burned through a tire, ha!
